Grey stone
Height: 5 in (13 cm)
Width: 9.75 in (24.5 cm)
Depth: 2 in (5.2 cm)

NON-EXPORTABLE REGISTERED ANTIQUITY

The sculpture is mounted on a detachable base measuring 1.5 x 9.75 x 3 in (4 x 25 x 8 cm)

This small sculpture shows three seated figures. Manjushree, one of the most important Bodhisattvas, is shown seated in the centre holding the sword of wisdom. On the left is a figure of Ganesha with a miniscule mouse shown peeping out from behind. To the right is Mahakala, a very powerful manifestation of Shiva, now weathered with age. Manjushree assumes great significance in Mahayana Buddhism as he is believed to possess utmost knowledge and hence is considered to be a preferred meditational deity.
